Former Treasury Secretary and Harvard President Larry Summers appears in the Epstein files through multiple references. Maxwell's FBI deposition provides insight into the nature of their relationship.
Meeting Through Epstein
When asked about Larry Summers, Maxwell confirmed she met him through Epstein:
"Larry Summers, the former Secretary of the Treasury, do you know that person? I did. Yes. How? Uh, I met Mr. Summers through Mr. Epstein."
Maxwell could not recall the specific time period: "I honestly really don't know."
Business and Friendship
Maxwell characterized the Summers-Epstein relationship as both professional and personal:
"Do you know do you know what his relationship was with Mr. Epstein business personal both or don't you know? I think he spoke to Mr. Epstein about business a lot, but I think they were **friends and friendly**."
Travel
When asked about whether Summers traveled to Epstein's properties:
"Did you know whether Mr. Summers ever traveled on Mr. Epstein's planes to any of the properties that Mr. Epstein owned? He may have, but I don't think if he did I was on any of the flights."
Maxwell noted that she traveled so frequently that "the flights just blur."
Other Documentary Evidence
Beyond Maxwell's testimony, the Epstein files contain email correspondence between Summers and Epstein, including messages from as late as 2019. In one exchange, Summers reportedly wrote "awfully coy u are" to Epstein.
Summers has publicly acknowledged the relationship, calling his interactions with Epstein "a major error of judgment."
