Alexander Acosta: The Prosecutor Who Let Epstein Walk
The Deal That Changed Everything
Alexander Acosta, as U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida, approved one of the most controversial plea agreements in modern legal history. The DOJ files contain the actual documents.
The Non-Prosecution Agreement
Document **EFTA00067323** is the actual Non-Prosecution Agreement itself. It begins:
"IT APPEARING that the City of Palm Beach Police Department and the State Attorney's Office for the 15th Judicial Circuit... have conducted an investigation into the conduct of Jeffrey Epstein"
The agreement then lists the federal charges that COULD have been filed:
Instead of these charges, Epstein pleaded guilty to state prostitution charges and served 13 months in county jail with work release.
The Victims Were Never Told
The agreement was negotiated in secret. Epstein's victims were never informed - a direct violation of the Crime Victims' Rights Act. Document excerpts reference how:
"Attorney and current Labor Secretary Alexander Acosta, violated the Crime Victims' Rights Act when they signed a nonprosecution agreement with Epstein without notifying his victims"
A federal judge later ruled the agreement was illegal.
SDNY Says: We're Not Bound
When the Southern District of New York investigated in 2019, their prosecution memorandum **EFTA02731039** explicitly stated:
"The SDNY is not bound by the SDFL non-prosecution agreement; moreover, while our investigation and charges cover some conduct and victims initially identified by the SDFL investigation, our charges also include conduct and victims who were not interviewed during that prior investigation."
This document - the actual authorization to charge Epstein - makes clear SDNY prosecutors viewed the Florida deal as irrelevant to their jurisdiction.
The Labor Secretary Resigns
Acosta became Trump's Labor Secretary in 2017. When Epstein was arrested in July 2019, renewed scrutiny of the 2008 deal became overwhelming.
Acosta resigned on July 12, 2019 - just days after Epstein's arrest and one month before Epstein's death.
