French model agent Jean-Luc Brunel, who died in prison in 2022 while awaiting trial on rape charges, was one of Epstein's closest associates. Maxwell's FBI deposition provides significant detail about their relationship.
Meeting in Paris
Maxwell explained she met Brunel independently in Paris in the early 1990s through her fashion work:
"Do you know um Jean Luc Brunot? Yes. How do you know him? Um I met him so when I told you I was working for the European for my dad um and I was in touch So back in like 90 early 90s... I was um running a magazine. One of the things in the magazine is fashion. And so uh I was going to some fashion shows and I was looking for fashion sponsorship... I met Jean-Luc through just in Paris like that. but socially not."
Epstein's Independent Fashion Connections
Maxwell noted that Epstein had his own modeling world connections that predated her:
"Did Mr. Epstein know him as well? Did you later learn whether they knew each other? I'm not sure I I don't he would have Epstein had his own fashion situation so he would have I I don't he didn't meet John Lewis through me."
She emphasized: "his Eva was um you know major model. So he had all these modeling connections and friends in that business that long before I met him."
Frequent Contact
Maxwell testified to seeing Brunel and Epstein together regularly:
"Did you ever observe them together over the years? Absolutely. Yeah, I saw them many times together."
All Properties
Brunel's access was extensive:
"Did Did he um visit the island? Did Yes. he go to Palm Beach go to Yes. Palm Beach Yes. **He went everywhere. I saw him in every place.**"
Massages
When asked about whether Brunel received massages:
"Did Do you ever observe him um uh getting a massage? Or do you ever know whether he got a massage? Maybe he didn't observe it personally? You I don't don't remember. I don't know. I mean I I don't I never I have no conscious memory of Jean-Luc. Like I I would imagine that he did, but I never I don't see it."
Context
Brunel was charged in France with rape and sexual harassment of minors. He died by apparent suicide in his prison cell in February 2022 before trial.
Maxwell's testimony establishes Brunel as one of the few people she saw at "every place" - all of Epstein's properties - indicating an unusually close relationship between the two men.
